How to Fish boss guide: bait, trophies, island unlocks

A stronger gun cannot spawn a missing boss. Talk to the island NPC, prepare the listed bait, watch the white escape bar, then hand the distinctive trophy in. The Radar moves after the hand-in, not at zero HP.

Story path

Spider Crab opens the boat. Giant Piranha opens Desert. Pufferfish opens Rocks. Albatross opens Volcano. Bowhead Whale is thrown into the crater to start Mutated Bowhead Whale.

Spider Crab

Lighthouse gate · Empty Beer Can

Buy a Beer Can, give it to the Lighthouse Keeper, equip the Empty Beer Can. Community fighters sidestep the charge and only swing when stun stars appear — brass knuckles for speed, knife for heavier hits. Some bait the rush into the lighthouse wall. Hand the distinctive drop to the Keeper for boat keys. That is the Who stole my beer path. Radar is a separate buy.

Giant Piranha

Forest gate · Modified Leech

Leeches are ground pickups, not fish. Turn in 3/3 at the lake NPC, equip the Modified Leech, then fight. Community notes prefer a pistol over a shotgun because the pack never stops spawning. Eat small piranha to heal, sell them when healthy, and throw dynamite only when the boss and the pack clump in phase two — then step back. Carry the skeleton (Dinnertime / Island 3).

Shotgun reloads lose the add wave.
Dynamite hurts you too — throw and leave.

Shark

Side boss · tree cover

Keep a tree between you and the leap. Wide circles give you time to aim down sights, fire, and move before the next lunge.

Shotgun is a reliable mid-game choice.
Never back into the waterline.
Keep one inventory slot for cooked food.

Pufferfish

Desert gate · Carrot

Catch a Needlefish on Standard Lure, give it to the tourist under the tree, use the Carrot. Community fighters dump dynamite early so the model is huge and coconut trunks actually catch the roll. After half health, skip the purple fog trail. Take the fin back (Vacation) before you expect Island 4.

Albatross and the whales

Rocks + Volcano · Tuna, Fish Bucket, whale body

Catch Tuna with Professional Boss Lure and kite it around stairs or casino tables. Drop the body to pull Albatross — the Tuna is consumed. Community testers keep the SMG (no reported falloff) and peek from the shop door or the casino door; beer heals but drains hunger. Hand the head in (Terrorizing bird) for Volcano. On Volcano, finish the scientist Fish Bucket quest, keep Bowhead Whale, throw it into the crater for Mutated Bowhead Whale, then hand the fin to the hazmat NPC (Deadliest catch / We are so back).
