How to Fish boss trophy: do not sell the quest piece
A dead health bar is not the unlock. Steam achievements name the hand-ins (Who stole my beer, Dinnertime, Vacation, Terrorizing bird, Deadliest catch). Players keep turning in generic meat chunks while the NPC wants the weird part.
Official vs community labels: achievement text is first-party. Item nicknames (skull, tail, fin, trophy, shell) come from walkthroughs and can disagree. Test the unusual piece at the NPC first.

WATCH THE HAND-IN
The kill is not the unlock.
If the Radar never paints the next color, you sold or cooked the trophy. Skeleton, fin, head, tail — talk to the NPC again with that piece.
Spider Crab → Keeper.
Piranha skeleton → Dinnertime.
Puffer fin and Albatross head next.
FULL ROUTE / NO COMMENTARY
Pause when the island matches.
Use the walkthrough for timing. The stills on this page are the
local screenshots that match the 3DM / Steam scenes, not stock
filler from another island.
02 / Community still — NPCs take the unusual piece, not a cooked duplicate03 / Official still — selling is for coins; trophies stay in the bag04 / Community still — do not cook the trophy you still need to turn in

How to tell meat from a trophy
If the piece looks like every other sellable chunk, it is probably
vendor loot. If it looks like a head, fin, skeleton or named quest
item, walk it to the NPC who sent you before the merchant. In
co-op, the player holding the drop must be present for the
dialogue.
Steam proof the Radar never updated
Threads titled “I didn’t get the coordinates” after Giant Piranha
almost always mean the skeleton stayed on the ground or got sold.
Pick the drop up, finish the lakeside dialogue until a new marker
(some players call it a flash drive) appears.
Whale is the exception
The unmutated Bowhead Whale is bait for the crater, not a Keeper
hand-in. Selling that body is the same mistake as selling a
trophy, with a different dump location.
