How to Fish Radar: buy it, hold it, follow the color

The Radar does not unlock islands. It only draws the marker after a quest hand-in. Chinese walkthroughs treat it as a must-hold tool on the boat: no Radar, no coordinates.

Community compile: AllThings. How and 3DM 渔力全开 both list a handheld Radar after the Keeper quest (walkthroughs quote $10). Color dots: green Forest, then yellow / red / pink as later islands open. Last checked 26 Aug 2026.

WATCH THE HAND

If it is in the bag, it is not drawing.

Chinese notes treat Radar as a held tool on the boat. Keys without a unit in your hands is the usual empty-ocean run.

  • Buy after Spider Crab.
  • Hold it. Do not holster it.
  • Green northwest = Forest.
FULL ROUTE / NO COMMENTARY

Pause when the island matches.

Use the walkthrough for timing. The stills on this page are the local screenshots that match the 3DM / Steam scenes, not stock filler from another island.

How the tool is used
  1. Finish the Spider Crab hand-in. Keys and Radar are two different buys.
  2. Put the Radar in your hands. Early Radar is not mounted on the boat.
  3. Sail the green marker northwest until Forest renders.
  4. Later islands use other colors after each trophy hand-in — not after the kill.

Leaving the Lighthouse

After Spider Crab is accepted, buy the Radar (walkthroughs list $10 at the Keeper) and hold it. A green marker northwest is the Forest route. Sailing with keys but no Radar in hand is the usual “I have a boat and nothing happens” run.

Replacement on Forest

If you drop or sell the unit, community walkthroughs point to a second Radar leaning on a Forest signpost — easy to miss if you only open the main shop. That is a shop find, not a reason to restart the save.

Selling it later

A Bean speedrun write-up sells the Radar on Volcano to free inventory. That is optional. If you still need markers, buy another unit before you throw the whale.
